The original subject was "Re: 1650 PTO Seal".

FYI I just ran into an issue when we pulled the PTO unit out to change the cap and seal on my 1966 Oliver 1650. There was no cap or snap ring and there was not a seal or thin O ring behind the spanner nut. I saw an old post on this same issue and got the needed parts. We installed the seal and cap yesterday and put the unit back in the tractor. We filled with oil and PTO is dry today. Thanks to "Oliver 1755" for posting this info. I was confused before finding this. Apparently they did leave out the cap and seal on some of the earlier single speed 540 units and relied on the sealed bearing and O ring for the PTO stub shaft to seal the unit. Thanks again. This is a great source of information.
