1650 stuck in 3rd

I had the clutch go in my 1650 (posted earlier about that. Turned out it was the throwout bearing). I wanted to get it down to my neighbors shop to work on so I put it into 3rd, started it, and drove it down there. But when I got there I wasn't able to get it out of gear, and still can't.
Anybody know what the likely cause and fix of this is. I don't want to put the motor back in if I'd need to pull it back out to fix the tranny problem.
Thanks for any help.
Pete

I didn't know you had to pull the engine on a 1650 to do the clutch.
I didn't have to on my 1600.

Did you try rocking the tractor while trying to get out of gear?

Well, that was dumb luck. I took the shifter out to see if I could see anything and accidentally bumped some things around in there trying to put it back in. Whatever I moved put it back into the proper shift pattern. I hope it stays there.
