1650 Transmission

I have a late 1650 diesel. Pushing snow today and it stopped solid and will kill the engine. It will do the same in any gear or neutral. I checked the bottom of the transmission for water back in October and all I got was oil. Today, temperature was a low of 9 and 22 at noon. It has been low 20's for high and low close to zero for the last 3 weeks, and shop is not heated. It is now sitting down a slope from the shop and about 200'

What all is involved in repairing it if a shaft stuck, or worse? Can these parts be pulled out the top and the back end where it sits, or does the axles have to come out too? I have too much in the shop to work on it until I move some out to the fields in the spring.

Sure sounds like transmission input shaft siezed up on ya if it kills engine in neutral when you engage the clutch. Axles have nothing to do with this, but you will need to pull cover off of trans, and pull engine out of the way as shaft has to come out the front of housing. I have never heard of the hydra-power or Hydraul - shift doing this, but you could confirm it is in the transmission when you take the coupling chain off. Either way you are going to need it in a shop if your weather is anything like ours right now.

I had 22" of snow January 25 and it is not going away. If it is the input shaft, will it roll in neutral? If so, I can get it inside but not much room to work on it until spring. I also have a loader on it so I have to drop that off.

When I got my Dad 's 1850 The input Shaft was out of it and It would roll By pulling it. I split it. It had pieces that got down into the ring and pinion. Everything has to come out then. So don't keep trying to drive your tractor. My nephew did with this one.
