1690 Case Info

Hi:

I am looking (pictures and seller comments only so far) at a 1690 Case tractor. One of the question I have is what would be a fair value for this tractor. Information I have says metal seems good, tires look good (with weather stress), hour meter works and says 4200 hours, comes with a loader, PTO does not disengage, 3pt works, and from the pictures looks well looked after.

Also, the good and bad of this tractor. I have found several comments on the net and there seems to be two opinions. Run away real fast, or good for its size. Or, have a fuel supply handy, or, economical on fuel. Seems like those that like it really like it and those that dislike it would never go back. Is this one of those Depends on when it was on the assembly line tractors.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I own a 1490 which is in the same series. From what little I know yours is a bit
more horsepower with similar transmission from looking at the spec sheets. I'm
not a case expert, just own one of their tractors. It's a handy tractor and
fairly nimble for its size. Turns pretty tightly. I bought it for the loader
which is the 66 model loader. Has lifted everything I have asked it to lift. I
find it comfortable shifting. Mine has four gears in each of the four selectable
ranges one of those being reverse. Fuel usage seems terrific, My fuel gauge has
never worked but best I can tell it's about 1 1/2 gallons per hour. My PTO works
fine and I have pulled a john deere 709 7 foot brush hog easily. Starts easy. I
paid $5000 for it several years ago. From what I see case parts are expensive
but I haven't needed any major parts. Parts seem available with some searching
and salvage parts seem plentiful.

Hi:

Thanks for you thoughts. From the comments I have found the 1490 was a more reliable tractor than the 1690 unit. At any rate, I did go look a the tractor and felt it was more work than I wanted, so, I did not acquire it.
