I have a neighbor friend who somehow had the front axle ?fall
off? while bush hogging. He has found most of the
replacement parts except the driveshaft. Two questions:can
the old one be repaired from being bent a little? Secondly, can
he just not put the shaft in and use it as a 2WD tractor until he
can find a driveshaft?

I would not hesitate to straighten the drive shaft. They turn fairly slow so as long as it is straight enough to not break the couplings it will work fine. It could be used without the shaft as a 2wd if he can't get the shaft straight enough.

The biggest danger to running a shaft that is almost straight is wiping out the splines on the front pinion shaft.
