1720d Max rpm

I have 1720d that I've had to do some tinkering with as of late.Im wondering what I should set the stoper at for wide open throttle.Whats a safe range for these to spin up to RPM wise.Thanks Aaron

The owner's manuals say normal operating RPM is 1,800 to 2,600rpm. They are designed to be perfectly happy running full throttle all day long.

Does your tach not have a red mark on it?

I don't believe it does have a redline.Im not at home at this time be 100%.I didn't realize I should be running it that high.

Probably ok but I seldom, maybe for a few seconds, run at maximum rpm. Maximum rpm is normally above 540 pto speed.

Yanmar's made diesels for a century -- some 15 million from 1.5 to 5000 HP -- so they presumably know how. Mine has over 5000 hrs and the total work was a valve adjustment at 15 yrs and a not-needed-one at 30 yrs. Its redline is just below its max, and at its (or maybe my) age I don't exceed about 90% of that for hard work.

Diesel engines are all governed. Unless you tamper with the governor settings- they are designed to run just fine at full speed all day long. Now, your situation may not require 2,600 rpm and there are many reasons to run at less than full throttle (noise for one, pto speed another) when not needed but 2,600 rpm will not hurt the engine. There is a large safety margin figured in there. It will cause much more harm to lug the engine. The hour meters are based on hours @ 2,600 rpm.
