1755 Steering Problems

I have a 1974 Oliver 1755 with power steering problems. I lost the steering the other morning when the temp was about 5 degrees outside, but I still had good hydraulics to the loader and the 3 point. It took about 30 minutes to warm up before it would work again. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Years ago we had a 190XT that the steering was lumpy, it was a Charlynn system. In the winter, it was always a problem to steer until you worked the steering wheel a bit to get the oil moving, then finally it'd work okay, stiff, but okay

later on the hydraulics were weak, and the valve pack not working well.

We rebuilt the valve control center, and pump, and many little problems we were having went away.

We rebuilt the system the day after it failed while I was approaching the driveway from down the road, pulling the 4 x 16 Melroe semi mounted plow, pretty much at full speed being a stupid teenager.

Steering failed just as starting to turn the wheel, and I had to man handle the wheel to pump some oil to the wheels, to get it to turn.

Almost put her in the small ditch and almost ended up in Mom's front yard.

The plow slowly fell down and dragged across the drive.

Not a good day. Never approached a drive like that again. Nevery fully trusted the all hydraulic systems again either.

We always took good care of the hydraulic system, changing the oil, filter often, checking the level daily.

It ended up being the little hard plastic valves in the control center, that wore where they had become grooved to the seat edge, and leaked. One finally let go on the sharp edge, and passed most of the oil right by.
