180 Allis Tow

Can I tow a 180 Allis 4 miles home with no hydraulic pressure without hurting power director?
Thanks AL

With the transmission in NEUTRAL, the Power Director clutch is safe. However, if it was MY tractor, I would overfill the transmission compartment (dipstick to the right of the gearshift) 4 GALLONS to insure that there isn't a seizure of any gears on the top shaft from lack of oil to lube them. I would go very SLOW and not have the front wheels off the ground any more than needed to keep the trans oil where it belongs. It would be a shame to get the tow job complete and engine running to find out you destroyed the transmission by towing.

Good info. I never gave it a thought when I towed the 190 back to the house. 12mph down the highway.

She rode the tractor to keep an eye on things, and to muscle the steering wheel around during the sharp turn into the driveway. She never heard any bad sounds on the way. I can't remember whether she was successful moving the steering wheel to turn it, or I just pulled it sideways for that short turn. Guess I'll find out when we ever get around to fixing the motor.
