1850 light switch

I am trying to get dash lights to work on my 1850. What are the positions suposed to be? 1st notch is head and tail lights, no guage lights. 2nd position, headlights and flasher, no tail or guage lights. 3rd position, guages only.Would like the guages to be on with the field lights, tried moving the wires around on the light switch, but they aren't long enough to reach where I need them to be. Is this the wrong switch or is the switch going bad? I disked cornstalks till 8:30 Sunday night and till 10 last night and would feel more comfortable if I could see the guages. Got all the stalks disked except endrows, and if the weather straightens up hope to chisel plow them yet. Thanks, Chris

On my 1750 gauge lights come on on first position along with lights on front of tractor(dims for me) 2nd position adds on the cab lights(brights) and 3rd position adds on the rear lights. I have to get a bigger alternator as with 6 lights, and a heater that little 37 amp one doesnt cut it one bit.

This is what we've got.

1st positin:
Front high & low, guage lights, and rear work light.

2nd position:
Front high and low, guage lights, flashers and rear red light

3rd position:
Front low, guage, flashers, and rear red light.

That's the way our MF 285 and Oliver 1755 were. The 1855 was a little different when we got it but I made it the same. I also added 2 more on the front and 2 to the rear with a separate 3 position push/pull switch like what's in my 1600. I can have all 4 extra lights on, or just the extra 2 on the back, or shut them off. Works great and the extra light helps tremendously.

The guage lights should always be on, as well as the front low beams. Put them on the same position on the switch.

The flashers and red tail light should also be wired to the same position, and on in the last 2 positions.

I would say your switch might be going bad, but it sounds like some of the wires are on the wrong terminals. Not too sure about the 1850, but I would think you should have enough slack in the wires to move them to different terminals.

Thanks, that's how I thought it should be. Just wanted to make sure. Will dig deeper this afternoon and see if I can get them switched around. I have an extra switch where the cigar lighter was and am going to hook up a couple more lights on the front of the cab. The lights on the fender reflect off of the cab windows and you can't see very good at night. I started out disking on an angle and after dark it turned into a large 1/2 circle. Chris

I installed fuel tank fenders on the 1855 and it had an extra place for a light on eqach fender, as the originals had 1 light each side and the fuel tank fenders have 2 lights per side.

I already had the extra lights on the back on the ROPS I installed from a 2-85, but I didn't have them isolated from the original circuit at the time. It would overload the wires a little bit. Now the extra lights have their own fuse. Had to use some old fuse holders that I replaced on my 1600 when I restored it. New ones from Radio Shack couldn't handle the amperage.
