1850 PTO WONT STOP

I wouldn't bet on making it stop. Those and the Super 55 are about impossible to get to stop unless you rebuild the whole thing with all new parts. "It's just the nature of the beast".

Well both replys have good points. Most likely you have some warped clutch plates which will need to be replaced. So you need to take the complete unit off the tractor so you need a manual. To keep from having the problem again you will need to get some machine work done. I THINK I still have the dimensions.

that's correct John, owning a manual was my simple answer.

If a 4 digit Oliver clutch pack pto wont stop You can bet adjusting isn't going to help it and needs to come apart.

Like John said, probably has warped plates. When lever is in the off position there needs to be o.120" clearance between any clutch plate and disc. Warped discs or plates will at some point have less separation. Clutches that are engaged under load for too long period will generate too much heat. Modern tractors, the PTO clutch is engaged by a computer, thus controlled engagement (slipping) time, most spray cooling oil during disengagement and engagement. Tech has made newer tractors a lot more reliable by taking the operator out of engagement time.

I just went thru this on my 1850 last year. I did a complete pto rebuild. I have the service bulletin from J. I could pass it along to you. My email is [email protected]. I also probably have part numbers for everything also.
