I have downloaded owners and parts manual from the jd website. Do the old parts manuals not have diagrams like the more modern ones? I have some components im not sure how to properly install. I was a kid when dad tore the tractor down. That was 40 years ago. He doesn't recall a lot of things. Is their a source for pictures? Anyone have one of these tractors? Main questions right now are the clutch fork spring, hand controls,and brake pedal springs.
www.jdparts.com for a free online parts book. That usually shows a parts breakdown.
JDparts website is useless for the age of the tractor. I have the parts book from the jd website. Shows pictures of the individual parts only.

That is the way the oldest parts breakdowns were shown, not more or less laid out as assembled as the current parts breakdowns are.

Is A 1657 R clutch fork spring in the parts picture installed correctly on the tractor? In my mind its the only place it can serve a purpose. Installed at the top its over compressed and coils touch. In the center it wouldnt do anything. Bottom coils are evenly spaced and it supports the clutch fork.
