1939 Tiger Tractor

I am considering taking a 1939 Tiger Tractor that comes with plow, sickle bar and harrow and has the owners manual, trading for a fishing boat. The owner of the tracotr claims this unit is worth $5, 000 to $6,000. Can anyone tell me about this tractor and is it worth this kind of money??? Thanks--Richard

Are you talking about a full-sized farm tractor - or a big garden tractor with a Briggs & Stratton single-cylinder engine? They often came with a single moldboard plow and a sickle-bar mower.

I've had several Tiger tractors with the Briggs engines. They were made late 1940s up through the 1950s. I wouldn't pay more than $500 for one, myself.

The first Tigers were made around 1949 by Inexco in New York City and New Jersey. But soon after, a company in West Virginia took over and made them through the 1950s. C100, PTD6, PTD5,Cub, IXA-12, etc. were all different models.
The biggest Tiger made had a two-cylinder Wisconsin TE engine - it was the 12 horsepower IXA-12 and weighed 1700 lbs. - and was rated for a single 12" plow. I'd buy this model if I ever came across one - but again - I doubt I'd ever pay more than $500 for it. It looks similar to a Shaw Du-all R12. I have seen a few all fixed and painted with asking prices of over $1000.
In regard to the year of 1939 you were told? I wonder where that comes from.
I wouldn't trade my fishing boat for one - unless it was a rotted out canoe with a hole in it.
