Here is our 1941 Farmall M. This tractor originally came out of the same collection as our 1940 A mentioned in another thread, though my friend sold this tractor years ago and I bought it years later from the guy that he sold it to.

Funny story about when we bought it, the man that owned it had it for about 7 years, bought it as a non running tractor, had no spark. So he took the magneto off of it and had a bunch of new parts put in and never could get it to run. Finally got tired of messing with it and came by the shop one day told me if I wanted it $400 and it was mine. I paid him for it and after work hooked up the trailer and headed out there. Figured why not I’ll try it and see what happens, put a battery and a couple gallons of gas in and tried to crank it. At first wasn’t getting any fuel to the carb, took the line off the tank and shoved a welding rod up inside, removed the blockage and we had fuel flow. Tried cranking again and backfired through the carb, ok so we’re out of time. Figured he didn’t time the mag right when he installed it, so proceeded to get ready to pull the mag. Put #1 on TDC and was loosening the bolts on the mag when I noticed something looked off. Moved three plug wires around into the correct order, hit the starter, and she fired right up. Drove her on the trailer and brought her to the farm.

Tractor ran good but the carb leaked bad and had a horrible sound coming from the front of the engine. A closer inspection revealed a ton of slop in the bearings in the water pump, so she got parked in the back of the shop. Finally got around to working on it a few nights ago, got the carb off and ready for disassembly and a bath in the ultrasonic cleaner, also got the radiator off and the water pump is sitting on the bench ready for a rebuild. Bearings and seals for the water pump came yesterday, need to order a few other things to put her back together.

This tractor is one of our workers on our small farm, soon as we get it back together it will get hooked up to the mower and do some end of year mowing duty.

I've probably owned more M's than any other tractor, I haven't been without one in my collection in probably 6 or 7 years. This 41 is the only one we've got now, but I've also had a 40, 48, 51, 52, and a 53 Super M. Most I've had at one time was 3, had the 40, 51, & 52 all together for a very short while.

Is that your tractor shop in the background? Looks like a fine shop whatever it's used for. I see a big John Deere there with rear duals which tells me your farm isn't so small. Wishing the best for you in this hobby. Ron

Yes that is our farm shop, very large building but needs a lot of work to be truly usable again. At one time it was home to a manufacturing company that built plows, but now most of the electrical is bad, and the back half of it is so piled up with junk that it’s not even usable.

That 4430 in the background belongs to my girlfriend’s grandad, he quit farming 20 years ago, backed it in the shop and it has sat there ever since. He and her uncle keep saying they’re going to come get it and take it home, wish they would as it would free up a lot of space in the shop for other things.

Growing uo in the 70s and early 80s on our farm, we had at least one of every letter series and others up through a 706 and 806 diesel. Dad would find a need for one, use it, decide he wanted something else, sell it, buy another and on and on, and I dont think he ever lost money buying or selling. The only one that ever stayed was the 41 M. Ive had 3 41s, still have 2 consecutive numbers, including Dads. Ive had quite a few parts tractors over the year too, but those are all gone.
