1941 John Deere B throttle

Hi everyone I have a 41 John Deere B. I got it out yesterday after it sitting for a good while to do a little plowing. The throttle lever won't hold full throttle position, it drifts back to about 1/2 throttle once you take your hand off the lever. It will hold position from low idle to about 1/2 throttle, anywhere past that it comes back to 1/2 throttle. It can't find my service book for it so I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction of what to check? Didn't know if there was any kind of friction disc on these or what holds the throttle lever in position.

Thanks

I had a B that was so hard to move the throttle that I lubed it up. Big mistake. It was then like yours. It would slow down on it's own. Friction is caused by a beveled mating surface just below the throttle lever. What you can do is pry up on the throttle shaft compressing the spring on the throttle lever so you can spray out the beveled surface with brake cleaner to remove any oil. That should help. Just don't pry up on the throttle lever, it can brake off. Pry up on the bottom of the throttle rod from the platform to lift the rod and throttle lever compressing the spring.

I also made the mistake once of lubing an A up when putting it back together. It would not hold at all. I took it back apart, cleaned it up, and put a thin layer of valve lapping compound on it before putting it back together. Now it holds great and operates smooth. Also check and make sure that spring isn't broken. It isn't uncommon.
