is a 1942 B considered a World War II B and does that hold any signifigance?

Yes your B would be a wartime B. Various changes were made to production during this time, including supplying tractors with steel wheels instead of rubber, and consequently not installing (for safety reasons) the overdrive gear which would give fifth and sixth gear.

It is very interesting to read the service bulletins of this time to see how John Deere supported the war effort. It is interesting that JD got behind the practice of reclaiming crankshafts by building them up and turning them down where previously they only recommended replacement parts.

Duane Larson compiled a complete set of the service bulletins which you can still purchased on CD from Nancy Larson.

I have 1 maybe 2 wartime Ds. I don't consider them worth anymore then a pre/post WW II D. JD made over 50,000 Bs during WW II.
