1945 AO

Would 1945 AO be a positive or negative ground? Has a magneto. Having a hard time, had the generator checked, said it was charging 12 volts. Was the tractor origingally 6 or 12 volts? Do I need a special regulator? Any help would be appreciated.

It, like alllllllllllll two cylinder Deeres was originally Positive grounded.

The Voltage Regulator isnt all that "special" so long as its suitable for your ground (i.e. Pos or Neg) and is 12 volts assuming you have a 12 volt battery. Late A's that used a Voltge Regulator, however, did use a 4 versus a 3 wire unit.

Early A's were 6 volt and didnt have any Voltage Regulator, they used a 2 wire Cutout Relay, later A's were 12 volt (had two 6 volt batteries in series) and used a 4 terminal Voltage Regulator

Sorry I dont know how your AO was equipped buttttttttttttttt you mention 12 volts and therefore, my best "guess" is it would have used a 4 terminal (BAT FLD LOAD GEN/ARM) VR versus only a 3 (BAT FLD GEN/ARM). Note either (3 or 4) can still be made to work perhaps with a minor wiring change.

Again, if you have a 12 volt battery and a VR instead of a cutout relay, I think she was originally 12 volt and used a 4 terminal VR

I know my original '45 JD BO is 6V positive ground with a cut-out on the generator. You should find a tag on the generator that would determine the voltage.

Parts book on page 61 lists light bulb as 6-8 volts.
