1946 2N starter button linkage

Push button on top of transmission case bottoms out and hard to get contact thru starter switch, tried the washer on top of the switch and solved the bottoming issue but since it was the orginal switch contacts did not last very long. Bought a new switch and JB welded a washer to the top of it but still wants to bottom out. Do I add another washer or what normally wears to cause this issue? Can't even guess how many times this has been pushed since Dad bought the tractor new the year I was born.

Blue Jay ,Yes just add another washer or two,to the almost right China switch to get it to push it more.

I have told this many times and noone has ever commented on it---nobody
believes it I suppose----anyway, when I got my 2N, it would not start with
the push button--I removed the button and sloshed it around in a solvent --
-the solvent was black and full of crud that came out of the switch..Re-
installed it and it has worked ever since(Sept. 2004)---I guess it had
enough crud in it that kept the push button from making its full travel to
do its job....If I had another one doing the same thing, washing out the
button would be the first thing I'd do..I KNOW it worked for me..Wash it
out then blow it out with compressed air..Naysayers keep believing whatever
u wish..
