Is there any type of gasket used on the exhaust connection between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe or is it just the clamp holding the flange together?

And the clamp is asymmetrical. When tightened up, one side of the clamp has a smaller diameter than the other side. The larger end goes on the manifold side, the
smaller end holds the pipe.

I put a jack with a block of wood under the exhaust pipe to hold the flared end to the manifold and any distortion to the flare, I smooth out with a ball peen hammer to create a good seal. Don't overtighten the clamp nuts clamps break easily.$$ I am fixing to put one on my '51 this afternoon. The first one (for my '49)I bought from this site is heavily made(U.S. I think), the second one for the '51 is small looking and cheaper made(PROC or India probably. I hope I don't break it.
