Recently, my mechanic was over to work on my 1948 8N (see pictures 1 & 2). He noticed a plate (see picture 3) on the engine block. He wondered if it was an industrial replacment engine/block since that would be the location where a fuel pump would be attached. On the other side of the block, the serial number is 8N88187. Which would put the tractor around mid 1948. Additonally, on the axle, the date is stamped 5-18-48, which would make sense. So the block would seem to be original. We compared it to our "51 and it was just a machined surface (see picture 4). Any information/explaination would be helpful.
