1948 A Main bearings

I am woking on my fathers A. It needed a few gaskets so i decided to put all of them in. I removed the LH main bearing to put in a new gasket. When i did this the thrust flange fell off the shell and the shell was multi color including one spot that was blue. So now it needs new bearings. I looked up the price from JD and there are about $300.00. I don"t want to spend this amount of money. This tractor still has the split shells in it. Can i install the newer full round bearings out of a 60 in this tractor? I know i will have to change the bearing housing but will i need to change anything else? Thanks Matt

That may be a possibilty to put in the 60 style main bearings. If you want to go to a used set of split shell bearings I probably have some good used ones. Feel free to email.

Take the bearing number to a good parts store and see if they can get it, may be cheeper than JD thats what I do my napa crosses the JD number and gets them.

60 mains wont work i tried once. If it was a later a it would. The crank journals are larger on a 60, but only the mains. Rod journals are the same.
