Guys, Don't have a manual yet but have a question. I have a 48 B that has electric start. It has a 12 volt battery positive ground. Is this correct?

Thanks,

Dave Brown

According to the "B" wiring diagram it should have a 6 volt battery, but the positive ground is correct, all Deere 2 cyl. tractors have positive ground. Jason.

Cool. I just heard on the news there was a bunch of snow east of me. I am in Nebraska. So, Since I just got this tractor. The generator could have been changed to a 12 volt. But I am not sure. So my best bet would be to have it checked and confirm that it is 12 volt and leave it this way???? I do not however see any ballast resistors anywhere? Or should I just convert or check that it is 6 volt and leave it thast way with a 6 volt battery? It is not charging as it sits?

Thanks,

Dave

It also shouldn't have a Delco dist. , it should have a magneto. A lot has probably been changed on it through the yrs. , up to your pocket book whether to put it all back to original or not.

I have a 1949 B and I use an 8 volt battery and it works great. It gives me a little more cranking power and it doesn't seem to put too much voltage in the wiring system.

agree. The Mag. was changed to a Waco XD Distributer at serial number 217799 (1948). You could still get a Mag. if you wanted. It (Two-Cylinder) says many Waco's were later changed to Delco-Remy.
