1948 John Deere A Starter

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all your help so far! I got the A running, and it sounds pretty good. But when I start it, it takes several (4 or 5) times for the starter to engage. Electrical connections are good, Iv'e looked at the bendix and it looks kinda bad, so I've got a new one on the way. Is there anything I need to know, or will this likely fix the issue? Thanks again!

Is it not spinning or not engaging the flywheel? two different problems two different solutions! Check the ring gear on flywheel too, they get Boogerd up, if it spins but doesn't engage.

It looks like Yesterdays Tractor has them, maybe I should get one of those on the way.

It spins every time but the engagement percentage is not good. The ring gear is not great, it is as you say boogered up a bit but not as bad as the Bendix gear.
