I have located a raised bar with what appears to be a date code on the right side of my transmission housing. Is this the date code that indicates the finish date of the tractor? Mine says 2*14*S. I also see a 2*6*"something" stamped into the metal under the paint too just behind this raised bar. Its about 3 inches long and 1/2 wide. Thoughts?

2*14*S means that individual part was cast on 2/14/1949. All major parts will have a casting date, maybe all different. They can sit for several months before being used in assembly. The IH section of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin has many of the tractor serial numbers as to date of assembly on their web site.

I just googled it and found the site. According to the numbers on the scanned documents, mine should have rolled off mid month. Consistant with the date found on the raised part of the casting. Thanks!
