1950 8n ford

8n was running fine while I was blading my drive. Parked it on a slight downhill slant. Next day I started it up and tried to move but left rear tire would not move. Any ideas what could be wrong. I jacked it up and the wheel will free wheel but once in gear will not move.

eft? Explain further.

Explain things a bit more. As in not move you mean when you try to go forward it seems to be frozen to the ground so you try to spin in a circle or you say it has no drive power to it??

the right side wheel turns the left side moves about 6 inches then stops completely. If I kept going I would turn in a circle. As I said before when its not in gear and the wheel is off the ground it free wheels fine.

when in forward gear the left wheel does not move but the right side moves. If I kept power to the wheels it would just turn in a circle. When I jacked up the left side wheel , off the ground, the wheel could be turned by hand.

Jack it up on both sides. Then start it up put it in gear and let the clutch out. In theory one tire should spin one way and the other the other way. Hit the right hand brake and hold it tight. The left wheel should spin up to speed when you do that but if it tries to stall the engine when you do that you may have a brake problem or a bearing problem

Y-T has to choices as for posting. The classic view which I use and the Modern view but if you do not know there is 2 you may not even know which you post on. At the top when you first go to a forum you should see a place to click on to go to which ever one your not on

My 8N does something similar. When first moving, the left wheel will lock up and stop turning, while the right wheel keeps driving forward. Going in reverse seems to unlock the left wheel. Sometimes I can add power, and the left wheel will begin to turn, acting like the break is on but loosening as it moves forward. I'm thinking it's a break issue???

Thanks to all who helped me solve my wheel problem. I tried the above and it worked. The left wheel brakes very fast but at least it is moves forward. Now I think I just have to adjust the brakes. Again thanks.
