1950 A Clutch slipping

Hello I'm working on a 50 A for my father in law he states that with the clutch engaged and in 2nd gear he can hit the brakes to put it under load
and it slips. The clutch parts all look good and the snap is good we even set it a little tight and it did the same thing. Anyone know what else would cause this?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I checked that and theres only two plates in this one and they looked right. Kinda hard to mess that
up I guess with only two plates.

only 2 ?
hUM ? I am thinking by 1950 the A had a free floating disc behind the clutch driver. A double faced disc on a tin plate with 3 holes that slide over the bolts or pins ? then a metal plate with gear teeth inside that slid onto the clutch driver than another free floating disk and the outer cover plate. So that's 4 facings ?

This is the parts diagram.

That parts diagram is for the early model styled...the later models had a floating disc with facings....someone has assembled your clutch without all the parts.

Maybe some cheap aftermarket disc Get some new ones from Deere have faces on driver slightly turned

I had trouble setting the clutch by eye and pull on the lever, so I started using an in-lb torque wrench. For a stock tractor I use 75 in-lb then go to the nearest slot in the nut for the cotter pin. When I tried adjustment by counting threads and how hard the lever pulled, discs would be a little out of parallel and didn't really hook up very well.

(quoted from post at 19:34:43 11/05/18) Ok thanks guys for your responses we ordered new parts see how we make out.

Be sure to slightly resurface the driver and also the outer clutch plate....you might use a light touch of grinder but not much just enough to make a rough surface. After you've done that an new disc there is nothing else left just those contact areas...however "be" sure you're not getting any oil on the disc as they will not hold and if the old one were ever saturated they wouldn't either...a lot of the times these disc get glazed and will slip, I've even roughed up the old ones with a wire brush on grinder...anything to get tight bond on coupling up the driver...

Make sure all 3 of the operating bolts move in and out the same distance. If not used for a while the bolts can get sticky

Mike: I have a 50 A and what you describe is exactly what is in mine. You end up with 4 facings. I understand that when Deere went to 321 cid
in the 50 A they needed more clutch facing to do the job.
