Anyone know how many 50 A models came out with the round tube axel housings and 2 stick trannys? I know a guy that has one and he was wanting to know how many there was before they made the change to single stick and square tubes.

The serial number would help to answer the question, because people frequently think a tractor is one year model, and it ends up being another.
If it is truly a 50 model AW, prior to serial number 648000 and after 640246, then it still could have had the wide front added. All that aside, there were approximately 343 gas and 42 all fuel, 50 model AW's built prior to the change. I know that almost all info out there says that the 50 model year started Nov 1st, 49. It actually started in Aug 49, at serial number 640246.

640246 was the first 1950 model. The last 2 stick was 647999 so there were 7,753 2 sticks built with round axles in 1950. The last round axle was on 650749 but it had the single stick. I take it you are talking about the rear axle and not the front. The term round or tube applies to the front axle in most cases.

I will try to get his sn. I was referring to the rear axel tubes . It's a rollomatic front end .

Back to your original question, with the clarification of it being the round tube rear axle/2 stick.
The production log says 6808, between SN 640246 and 647999 (Aug 49 through Nov 49, as 1950 models). You can't subtract one serial number from the other because they scrapped individual and groups of serial number tags, sometimes even large groups. Even the production log is no guaranty of accuracy, but is generally accepted as about the closest to real numbers built.

(quoted from post at 22:53:47 03/18/14) Back to your original question, with the clarification of it being the round tube rear axle/2 stick.

How can there be 6808 numbers between 640246 and 647999? I get 7753. I know they scrap some tags but if you can't scrap 6808 when there is only 7753 between the two serial numbers here. What am I missing?

This number crunching is hurting my head too.
7753 is the number of tags between 640246 and 647999, with no tags or tractors left out. 6808 is the number of tractors built between those two numbers according to the production log. That is only a difference of 945 (tags scrapped). That is not actually an unrealistic number, as there are some other "whole model years" with more than that missing. Of course we're only talking about 3 months of production, so it is kind of high.
However I did find some info that the last "two stick" built was 647069, not 647999. This brings the number down to 6823. Scrap 15 more tags along the line and you have 6808.
The most common occurrence of large numbers of tags being scrapped, is when a major change was made (like at 648000). If in fact 647069 was the last one built instead of 647999, that would be 930 tags scrapped at one time. Maybe the tags at that time were packaged 1000 to a box??? Toss the box out and start at 648000?

1950 A serial # starts at 640246 that :s when the single stick trans come out in the A tractor i have one #649xxx is one stick but has round rear axel housing

The statements given previously are correct, based on all available info.
There were approximately 6808, 1950 model year, two stick transmission A's built. You are correct that they were not built in 1950 calendar year, but they are 1950 models. They did not start building the single stick at 640246, it was at 648000.
Yours being 649XXX would be one of the fewer single sticks built before the change to square axle housings at 650764 (except AN, AW), and would have likely been built sometime in Dec 49.

A guru you better look in the model A parts book from Deere frist single stick started at # 640246 and that is also the frist 1950 model A as listed in Two Cylinder Club traditinonalBeginning serial numbers based on production years not the year that they were actualy made

Kent Peterson.
I'm not going to get in a pissing match with you.
You better look at your parts book.
The Two-Cylinder Club serial number list is correct, it just fails to mention when anything was built. I'm well versed in the difference between model, production, calendar year. Do your homework, as I've done mine.
The parts book makes no mention of any kind of parts change at 640246. I'm not sure where your parts book came from.
The change from 2 stick to 1 stick was at 648000. The parts book (even though superseded over and over) shows that the maincase part number (and all related gearing) changed from A3290R to A4000R at this point. This IS the change from 2 stick to 1 stick. Check your tractor and you will see this. The axle housing part number/casting number (A3270R) did not change from round to square, so cannot be found in the heavily superseded parts book.

I am always more than happy to learn new info and provide accurate info to the best of my knowledge. If you don't believe the info I have provided is accurate, that is your choice.
I'm not looking to argue with you.
I would recommend you check your info for accuracy, before disputing what I have said.
