1950 John Deere A

No. The head and block will come out leaving the frame connected to the main case. You have to turn them a certain way and it may even come out the bottom but it will go. I have done them before but it's been so long I don't recall all the details. The procedure is even in the I & T manual I'm pretty sure of it.

No, you actually need everything attached before you put the block back in on the late styled models. I would recommend that you take the hood and everything off of the top. I am sure you can get it out underneath but it is a lot easier to have open space.

Only if you have an aftermarket power block do you have to have the pistons in before installing the block.

All of the waterloo 2 cyl. were designed so you could remove the cyl. head and or block WITHOUT needing to remove the hood ,fuel tank or split the frame off. Air cleaner or just cup many times needs to come off along with generator and a few ? maybe even the fan support to get the push rods out.
