1950 McCormick W4 live hydraulic setup

Hello,
I recently got a 1950 W4 and the she runs like a top! I would like to get her setup with live hydraulics using a pump off a 300,350 or super H. I am told the front plate needs to changed as well. What about
the front plate is different between the W4's c152 and the newer, upgraded engines? Is there just more space for the timing gear?

If anyone has added live hydraulics to their W4 I'd love to hear from you and see what you think of it.

the difference is the bolt mounting pattern for the pump. if i remember the top outer mounting bolt is about half a bolt diameter off. you can either change the front cover, or, m + w made a live pump kit for the m and the h, you would run a bolt in the hole, cut it off flush the re drill and tap the cover to fit the live pump. pretty sure you also need to change the camshat gear to the later supers as the gear was heavier to handle the live pump. if you dont it can shear off the cam gear. easier to do it when you have it all apart.

I may be wrong, but I think youre going to have to modify the cover you have. The front cover for the SH, etc is different than your W4.

In the month of April 1950 they made the bolt pattern to fit that type of pump. Best way to check bolt up is find 6 numbers followed by R1 on front cover or ignition drive housing. Front cover will have raised numbers and ignition drive will have 354948R1 sunk in housing, may be on side you can't see bolted up. If you try hard at different angles you should be able to see if front cover has over 4 numbers. If pump has a place on end for hour meter gear it may need to be shorter for the early cover. W series tractors had the option of engine driven hydraulics before the farmalls.

W4 serial number 26549 and up have the wider bolt pattern to accommodate the hydraulic pump. I have most if not all the parts for the factory setup if you are interested

Reason I didn't post a serial number break is because not positive if for the engine serial number or chassis. Should be engine serial number for engine parts but never found anything to say for sure on a W4.
