1950 model b jd.

Wanting to get this tractor home. Aired up tires, hooked a chain to it but it won't roll. Tractor has been sitting 10 plus years. Engine is locked up as far as I can tell. Shifter moves up and down on left side but won't go into any gear. Any suggestions on getting this thing to move so I can get it home? Thanks in advance

Either the shifter lever is "out of place and it's in gear (but should roll if the clutch is released and free), or one or both of the brakes MAY be rusted up.

Take the shift quadrant off the transmission and make sure its in neutral. Also its easy to remove the brake assemblys, 3 bolts each.

Will try brakes first. Where it's sitting is a mosquito farm. Thanks, will let yall know if it works.

Managed to get both brake drums off. Right side was in bad shape. Neither side pedals moved till I got drums off. Started raining so had to call it quits.

Does it cross the middle to get to the high side? You can see they are the same shift just moved over 4 inches. I wonder if it’s stuck in the range that the lever isn’t and if you get it to go side to side through the middle slot above 2 you might win without taking it apart but that’s a might. I’ll be at grandpas older 48 b this afternoon if that isn’t the right transmission this is on the A but the 48 has the one where the ranges are more lined up but the answer I believe is the same neutral in either vertical slot. For some reason I always put it next to 2 but that’s the most common gear I’m in mowing.

It'll move up and down on that last side but won't go to the other side at all. Will not go into any gear. Don't want to try and force it. Going over later today to see if it rolls since I took of the brake drums. If it rolls I can get it on a roll back and bring it home. Scared to pull that plate right now and what I'll find inside that gear box. Last resort there.

You ever get this moving? I have a 1951 that was in the same shape. Engine stuck, brakes stuck, steering stuck, shifter stuck etc. I removed the brakes and got it to roll after removing the clutch. Got the engine to turn over, but it will not roll in gear, even with the clutch still disassembled.

I am thinking there is a bearing froze in the transmission somewhere.

Bringing it home today. Still stuck. Pulled top off tyranny. None of the sliders move so gonna have to address that issue. First have to get it on jack stands and get those rotted tires off. Hoping the rims aren't to bad. But, first things first.
Once home I'd like to post my progress on here and I'm sure I'm gonna have many questions. But, a project 8s a project.

Rims should not be terrible to find second hand. I can usually find plenty of 9x38 drop centers, the 11x38s are harder to find used bua 9in wide is all you need for an 11.2 tire

Despite them sitting flat for years the tires on mine actually are ok and have been holding air for about a year and a half now.

Wish I could say the same for my tires. Got them off last night. They're shot. The hubs are another story. Look to be solid cast and must weigh a ton. Not looking forward to getting them off. But that'll be down the road yet.
Main concern is freeing the tyranny. I can turn the belt pull by hand which moves the right wheel but not the left. That tells me it's stuck in gear. Shifter forks seem frozen. One project leads to another project.

You didn't mention it, but I'm assuming the clutch is disengaged? Occasionally someone will park one with it engaged, and if it's been sitting that way for 10 years it could be rusted together also.

Clutch seems to be working. Took off the flywheel side brake. It's was completely locked up. Can spin both wheels now but still in gear. Looked in hole where brake was. Some rust on gears but not to bad.
Spark plugs are just carboned up. No signs of rust which is encouraging. Drained the oil. Some water in oil but not as much as I thought there'd be.

So, took off clutch part down to the drive disk and discovered someone had broken off a bolt in one of the 2 holes used for pulling this thing off. Looks like they just ground it flat to the surface. Now what?

You should be able to weld a nut to what's left of the bolt and get it out. Might take a few attempts but I have not had a situation yet where that did not work.

I took a ball peen and lightly encouraged the shifter on mine to get moving, I think mine was in neutral though, but would be worth a shot.
Don't wail on it like a gorilla, just give it some light tapping back and forth and spray the pivot/boot area with some penetrating oil.

I also got a frozen shift fork free on a Massey 35 doing the same thing, took a few days but it came free.

Now that shift pattern brings back bad memories of running a JD standard diesel when I was in high school! Don't remember what it was for sure. Maybe an R? I was thinking maybe smaller than that but don't remember. Pony engine didn't run so I had to give it a push down the hill, throw the clutch and hope it started by the time I hit the bottom. By the end of the day in the field I was covered with diesel fuel and dirt because it slobbered as much fuel out the exhaust as it burned.

Wish that were the case. Feeling around inside it feels like the spline shift are pretty rough with corrosion. Going to be a bear for sure.
On a good note I removed the power tool unit and good oil came out of it. Hoping for the same when I get the hydraulic unit off. 5hen I can start to see what damage there is inside the tyranny.

Well, I finally got the clutch drum off after drilling out the broken bolt someone left in it. Retapped it, put my puller on and it popped off. Governor was locked up, got it off. Pulled head, one side just Carbonell up but the other side had water in it. Cam is locked up also. It's a freakin mess but I'm not defeated yet.
