1952 8N Rebuild Kit

I have my 8N taken apart and ready to buy a rebuild kit for the engine but there are so many different kits. I want to do a complete rebuild. How do I figure out which one I need. It seems there are several different complete kits for 8N's.

There are definitely many different kits.
You need to measure all your clearances and make sure you're
buying bearings that fit the crank rod and mains if they have been
turned down in the past. That's if you don't have to have it turned again.

You also need to know the thickness of the sleeves so you get the
right ones to fit, if it hasn't been modified so that they are gone.

Since you've got it apart, I would start with a good mic and caliper.

I generally suggest letting your machine shop guy order your parts... he can likely get em for you as cheap as you can get em, he makes a little profit (thus he likes you more) and he has the responsibility of making sure it's all correct.

I bought one of the DIY rebuild kits from a major 8N supplier, which is advertised as requiring no cylinder sleeve honing or piston fitting. Upon assembly, the piston and ring clearances were way too large. The piston-to-cylinder clearance was .005 and the ring end gap was .021. It runs OK, but I am not too happy with the clearances.
