I have a VAO 1952 with the eagle hitch. Could you tell me where to check the hydraulic oil and the transmission rear end oil? We had a VA years ago with out eagle hitch and I think there was a dipstick, but I don't remember. I do have the manuals, but I am sure someone may be really familiar on how to do this on the forum. Is the torque tube separate from the trannie for lube?
Thanks
Neil

Trans and torque tube are separate, on the LH side of the torque tube should be a square headed pipe plug, that is the fill and level, I fill them till they run out the hole, the trans had a square headed plug as well on the shifter tower, this one has a dipstick,

CNT, thank you very much. I guess hydraulic oil goes in the torque tube and the 85W140 I put in the Cockshutt's trannies goes in the tranny/rear end? I generally use 5W30 in the hydraulics. When you mentioned the dip stick beside the gearshift, it cam back to me that is what the VA had too.
Have a good afternoon.

One more question - I guess two!! I notice the seat on it actually contact the cylinder housing for the eagle hitch. I suspect it should be forward a bit to give clearance, but it seems there is no adjustment forward on the bottom part? Does anyone make reproduction springs and bushings? I has a tension spring on it unlike the VA had.
Thanks again.
Neil

If you have the standard seat v/s the Easy-Ride seat (optional) there should be 2 compression springs under the seat frame itself. One spring is inside the other and both go over the stud coming up from rear end. If that seat is hitting the hydraulic piston assy and you only have one spring, sounds like you are short one spring. The entire seat assy is not moveable forward and rearward. John S may be able to get you the spring or springs you need. You can slide the springs forward for harsher ride and rearward for softer ride by loosening the carriage bolt at the top of the springs where it goes through the slot in seat frame.

Jim.

Jim the spring has one tension spring. Our VA back in the day was two compression springs. With the VAO model, it sits much lower than the VA did. I wonder if it is an easy rider seat. Is that a Monroe built seat in that case?
Thanks,
Neil
