1953 Jubilee

Hey everyone! My girlfriend has a 53 Jubilee and I have a battery question...what kind of battery do we need? At first she thought it was a special one like a 31s bci...but now we are thinking its a regular car type battery. I havent seen the tractor in several months...wasnt paying attention to the battery at the time.

Also, I have looked at tons of pics on here, and all of the Jubilees I have seen are red/grey. Hers is blue/grey. Would that be the original color? Thanks!

The Jubilee was ORIGINALLY red and gray, and used a 6-Volt battery, connected (+) ground.

HOWEVER, ALL bets are off as to what has been changed or converted or painted on a 54-year-old tractor.

Better find out if there has been a 12-Volt conversion done BEFORE buying a 6-Volt battery.

If it is "as original" 6-Volt be SURE to correctly connect up the battery, then polarize the generator BEFORE attempting to start it.

When you get to that point, post back, or take a look in the archives for polarizing instructions.

Well, def been switched over to a 12 volt...bought a battery, and it fired right up but only ran for a few seconds. Ive never tried to start it cold before, I just guessed that I had to pull out the choke and start it. Now it will crank but not start, no matter what I do with the choke or throttle. Is there a special starting procedure that I dont know about? I checked the little glass bowl under the fuel tank...I figured that was some sort of filter. It had a lot of debris in it...i cleaned it but still no luck. Any thoughts? Thanks!

LOL...the fuel was shut off. I ended up turning the knob above the glass thing and she started right up! What is the little lever just above the clutch? Its doglegged shaped and mounted to the side of the motor....

[color=darkred:dc1f0f3880]Bet the little lever comes out of the bell housing and not the engine and is a Sherman auxiliary transmission. It could be a combo over under or an over or an under. At any rate it gives more speeds to choose from.[/color:dc1f0f3880]

I could use some polarizing instructions for a 1954 Jubilee. I know it has a 6 volt battery and i would like to buy a new one but i dont know how to polarize the generator so i an scared to disconect the battery. I looked back at the archives but could not find the answer. Only that polarizing an 8n is differnet then a jubilee. thanks for any help with this Ron

[color=darkred:e7c16f7f9a]There is no such thing as a '54 Jubilee. Jubilee was only built in '53. If you're just changing the battery out, it shouldn't need repolarization. Cross that bridge if and only if it doesn't charge.[/color:e7c16f7f9a]
