1954 John Deere 40T

I have a JD 40 T. I don't see many comments or photos on this model tractor. Are they scarce or not a good model to restore or to use as a pulling tractor for hobbyist.

looks like 17,906 of those guys made it off the assy line.

Now if it is an all fuel it looks like just over a hundred stayed in the US

The 40T is not rare at all. Seems now most prefer the wide front tractors. I havent seen but one in a pull. It did well, however there were only about 3 in that weight class. They can be quite hand tractor if in good condition. They have 3 point lift system.

I don't know is this (rare) or have you seen 17,906 just like it?

Shifter problems with the model 40 were common. See service bulletin No. 218. At sometime in last 57 years this tractor got a 420 upgrade (4 speed tower quadrant).

You sure don't see many that nice, most of the ones i see advertised are pretty tough looking.

Larry, I have a 1953 40T single tire and mine only has a 4 speed transmission with a bent shafter, which later was replaced with a straight shifter lever. After reviewing several photos of the 40T wide, I don't see any with the cover on the transmission like the one you have. Over all the tractor looks good.
