How many 1954 super m gas models were made ? What is the last serial number of the gas models

Lots , in later 54 the TA also came out. No idea on the last one.

Think serial F-51977 was first 1954 Callender year SM and 52627 the last. Don't know if all numbers in between were built or scrapped before selling to public, at least a few were. Those numbers would include all types of fuel. No Louisville SM built in 54.

Looks like if you have a Super MD built in the February 1954 SN number range you can probably rightfully call it a rare tractor. Probably any SMD built in 54 could be claimed as rare, unless they built a bunch of them in January.

I was going to make that argument, I looked around in other years to get some confirmation of what the posted numbers stood for. I then decided to look at the rest of the WHS page BYE copied from for the 1954 model year, lower on the page it shows the Farmall 300, in the November column it shows 501. As most that are familiar with IH SNs know the starting SN for a new model is usually 501. That would seem to indicate the numbers shown are the SN of the first unit produced each month.
Edit: After looking a bit more I went to the 1955-56 sheet, this sheet had a new “table style” format. In the upper left corner it says “First tractor off the line” that seems fairly cut and dried to me. However, I cannot explain why the 1955 November and December numbers for the Farmall 300 don’t agree on the two sheets.

Somewhere in records it says a regular SM model was discontinued 2-1-54. They made other types of SM chassis later than that. Parts books that include SMTA with SM say SM to serial 52627 when covering SM parts. Not claiming anything for sure about IH, always run across something else.

On many of the IH serial number lists, when model production stopped the last number listed would be the final serial number and it is inserted in the column for the next month. In the case of the SM line, it would read as January production started with serial 51977 and ended when the last SM was built with serial 52627. None built in February. Usually when I see this, there is a footnote at the bottom of the page that says so. I do not see that footnote on this page. I also can't say that every tractor factory did this or that it was done the same every year.

By my reading of the page, I would say the last SM was 52627 and it was built in January. What D Slater posted is a confirmation of at least the last serial number part of it.

I'm not quite sure what the disagreement between sheets is that you are seeing. I suspect it may be that you skipped over one year's production on the 1955 page and compared to the 55-56 page. The page BYE posted above is calendar year 1954. You posted a link to 55-56, which is mostly calendar year 1956. Here is the missing link to 1955:

I think it may just all boil down to IH did not keep the most precise records as say John Deere may have. Just throwing this out there. Maybe whoever was in charge of making the serial number breaks for the parts catalog only had this same production data information available to them. So they also did not know what the SN of the actual last produced tractor was prior to the serial break or model change. In other words the 52627 was the only recorded production number they had so it was what was put down. Then if you came in to get parts for your SM built in February the parts guy just was scratching his head over your SN.

Not sure what you mean. F-300 501 start of November 1677, start of December, start of 55 3360. Serial numbers between 1677 and 3359 used in December. To clear up on SM comment no kinds were made using a higher serial number than 52627 but saw something once that a few special purpose SM didn't get completely assembled until after discontinued date.

I seen on red power forums that they made 357 gas 44 diesels row crop tractors 1954 Super M's
