1957 Case 350 Hydraulics

Hello I have a 1957 Case 350 that I am wanting to put hydraulic remotes on. It looks like there have already been remotes on it but I need some help with where to hook the hoses up. Here are some pictures. Thanks in advance to anyone who tries to help me.

Your pic is a SA interlock as it is now shown. The interlock configuration determines whether the system is SA or DA the rest of the system remains as it is now. This pic is the instructions for changing a SA interlock to DA.

Before you do anything look closely at the gap between the top bolts and the pipe fitting connections. Note that the rear gap is larger then the front gap. The interlock will bolt on either way but if it is end for end (small gap to rear, large gap to the front) than the interlock ports will not correctly line up with the control valve ports and there will be about a 20% fluid restriction to/from your remotes.

When you take the interlock off you need to install a recessed 1/4 npt pipe plug in the center port. Than make a new gasket, bolt it back up and add another hydraulic line. If you look at this one closely it was installed end for end (upside down)you can see the port mis-matchs on the gasket face.

Thanks this information should be really helpful. I will let you know how it goes one I get to it, this will likely be a winter project. Thanks again

Just 1 quick question, I will still be able to operate the eagle hitch after doing this correct?

I can't think of a way to pipe in the Eagle hitch SA piston off hand, maybe someone else here can help. The port you are plugging is the return port for an SA system. I don't know about the 350 but most tractors in this era have stacked control valves/interlocks with the SA on the right side of the tractor and the DA on on the left.

This is how an SA interlock functions on an SA system, port C is open to prevent the pump from operating in relief while lowering the hitch piston or returning an SA cylinder. You have to plug port c for DA otherwise much of the pump pressure to port B would circulate back to the sump via would port C.

Ok so either I can have eagle hitch functions or a remote hydraulic with the valve that is on the tractor, and if I want both I would need to find a different valve, ok thanks again for helping me out I really appreciate it

You would need a selector valve in the line to the Eagle Hitch. Then you could use one or the other but not both at the same time.

Barry, it's a little more complicated then installing a selector valve. Using a selector valve while the hitch is in lift mode the interlock spool would be in position to return one side of the remote cylinder. The selector valve will have somewhat of a hydraulic lock on one side of that remote cylinder but none on the other side as the interlock spool is holding the ball check off its seat, a loaded remote cylinder would have a natural tendency to drop some (or a lot if the cylinder piston seal is not 100%) while the Eagle hitch is lifting.

When the Eagle hitch is being lowered the remote cylinder will be pressurized on the side that previously the interlock spool had in the return position. Plus the fact that port C is now plugged for DA the pump can not circulate and will be riding the relief valve all the time the hitch is being lowered.

Using a DA interlock for SA is doable with a piping arrangement that has two selector valves but the hitch lowering cannot be through the interlock w/o having the pump in relief due to DA plug in port C. The hitch could be lowered with a separate manual ball valve and piping back to the torque tube sump unfiltered via the fill plug on the cover or filtered via the filter cover on the left top side of the torque tube.

My application works well when using a single acting cylinder like some loaders or a wagon hoist then the Eagle Hitch. Maybe Andrew should consider adding another stack segment from a parts tractor since he has only the single segment for the Eagle Hitch and he would be able to operate either one as needed.
