1960 Cockshutt 560 Question

I"ve got a 1960 Cockshutt 560 with the original Perkins engine in it. It"s getting cold and the tractor"s having some starting issues and was wondering what my options are for adding a heater to to motor. Do I have to use an external, or is there a place to put one directly into the block or head? Just wondering what other"s have done.

Don't know about your particular application, but the consensus on here in the past is to get one that splices into the lower radiator hose. That's pretty much "universal", as most lower hoses are long enough to accomodate a heater somewhere. The water will heat and circulate by convection, warming up the whole engine better than many other types.

I like the ones that go into the block directly. Just remove a freeze plug and install the block heater. Can be had at any tractor dealer, or most auto parts stores.

I have a block heater in my 570, but I also use a magnetic heater on the oil pan. That old tractor cranks to life on some pretty cold days. I think the oil pan heater makes a big difference.
