1962 Ford 971

Looking for the top gasket over the valve body on the Select o speed on my 971. Simple gasket but I can't find it anywhere. Any thoughts? Thx. Dave

Odd, the parts site shows two part numbers for that gasket, NDA7223A and 86569737, but when you try to look either of those numbers up on any of the parts suppliers, partspring, messicks, etc. the come up as the top cover gasket for a 5 speed.

Then if you look at the parts diagram for a 961, the drawing for the 5 speed case shows the same part number, so I'm guessing that the S-O-S used the same gasket as the 5 speed and most places just list it as fitting the 5 speed.

Your 971 should use the same gasket as my 871 (1961). My gasket kit for that was fel-pro FWIW, but I see them on Ebay also.

The NDA number is NLS. If one looks up the top cover gasket for a 6000, which only uses the SOS, the 86569737 number pops up as available for it. The top covers on all SOS 59-64 used the same gasket.

That link also has an incorrect part # for a 971. I would guess it to be a gasket for a '65 -'74 SOS, rather than a pre-'65 one.

The NDA7223A gasket looks to be available from several
places if you search the part number on google. It is the same
as a 5 speed and will work fine. Some select o speeds had a
metal gasket but the fiber one will work fine. I?ve used them
several times. Just put one on last week.

Yup. When I googled it on Ebay, said they only had one left. Got curious, went out to the barn and checked the fel-pro kit that I'd kept because it still had pan, oil & water pump gaskets in it. Small print mentioned "10 bolt C7NN722C replacement".

Purchased this for my 971 SOS gasser 160xxx. Looks to be off quite a bit. Other suggestions for the 971 sos top cover gasket. Kept my metal one-pretty beat up. Else, I ll need to make one.

Whoever labelled that package obviously did not know what that gasket is for. It says:

Gasket
Trans 5 SP 1955-64
2000-3000-4000 65/up.

The 65 and up 2000-3000-4000 series didn't even have a 5 speed transmission available.

Go to a New Holland Dealer. partspring.com is a New Holland dealer that also sells parts on-line. They show the 86569737 part number available for immediate shipment, so if you have a local New Holland dealer, they can probably get one for you as well.
