How should the alternator be wired on this tractor? Currently it looks like only 2 wires a plug on top and a wife off of a terminal in the center of the alternator both run directly under the dash? Nothing to the battery? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A 340 Utility has no alternator, it is a generator based system. So if your's is an alternator, we will need some additional info )like numbers
and names off of it) to help. Jim

Correct. A 340 would have come from the factory with a generator, so if yours is an alternator it is a conversion.

The wire from the BAT terminal on the back of the alternator should go to the AMMETER in the dash, not directly to the battery. This is so you can tell if the alternator is working by looking at the AMMETER gauge. From there it should run to the hot post on the solenoid, which then goes back to the + terminal on the battery.

ok thats what i was curious about. Like most old tractors the PO cut and spliced and just got rid of a lot of wires. so slowly im trying to fix things. the alternator has the 2 wire plug on top with one wire ( jump wire) just cut off, the other wire goes under the dash to the ampmeter. the large wire coming from the center of the alternator to the ampmeter and then to no where. its a complete squirls nest lol

My alternator is delco. It looks like it's putting out 13.6 volts but nothing getting to the battery?
