1963 Ford 4000

I am looking for a replacement rear rim for my tractor. This is the tractor that my Granddad bought new in 1963. I have plans to restore it but the first thing I ran into is, no one makes this replacement rim. Any help?

I believe that tractor should have 13.6 X 28 tires.
That would equate to a 12 X 28 rim.
They ARE available.

Check with a Titan tire dealer or Miller tire. Titan makes most of the rims.

That is true. The size is 12 X 28. I have found all types. However, the ones on my tractor has four plates with slots in them for a spin-out hub. I sent pictures to the sales department at yesterdays tractor and said they had never saw that style. I have not figured out how to attach a picture here yet but I am working on it. Thanks

You can find replacement rims for older Fords at most New Holland or independent dealers. They may not match the original because they can be hard to find. I replaced both back rims on my Ford 861 last year but they aren't exactly like the ones that came on it from the factory. You might also try tractor salvage yards to see if you can find a match.

Are the plates factory spot welded on or riveted? One of my replacements came with plates welded on and I drilled out the spot welds and removed the plates and repaired any divots on the rim with the welder. You could weld them to the new rim. Replacing rims is labor intensive.

New replacement power adjust rims of vintage Ford design are not available.

Options include having yours repaired, finding serviceable used rims or having a good welder remove the plates from yours (if serviceable) and welding them onto new blank rims.

Note: Most (all?) of the early Ford PA rims are 11X28. Perhaps, those sold on new tractors with 14.9 tires were 12X28 but I have not seen any.

gyadon: Your wheels are not made aftermarket that I know of. You will have to find a good set of used rims. If your power adjust plates are good they can be moved into another set of rims. I have also cut sections of the bead out of a good rim and welded it into rare rims too. Your rims would go back into the 01 series Fords as well.

Here is a picture of a Ford 961 with the rims you have. The wheel center is like a big screw and it threads itself in and out on the plates in the rim.

I'm pretty sure you are talking about the Ford Power Adjust rims.
Some of the other guys posted pictures of them.
Unfortunately I haven't found any new reproductions.
I have an original set that I would sell.
Shipping might be a deal killer though.

There is a large Ford tractor salvage yard in East Texas. Can't remember the name now, but they would be a direction I would look.

There is a company Hey Wheel that make replacement rim. Uses the 4 bolts that holds the clamps. Not adjustable though. I have 1 in central Texas of the origal rims.
