1964 ford sos

Does my 1964 Ford 4000 have a filter in the SOS? My dealer tells me no. I have not looked inside the tranny yet. If it does where is the best place to get one?

Here is a parts break down from New Hollands web site. You are after #54. Should be part # CONN7B155A. Not a bad job if you have a service manual. Good luck.

And be holding on to something sturdy when the NH parts man rings it up. It's about $55-$60 and NH is the only place to get it.

You have to remove the transmission top cover to get at the filter. Clean the trans off like you were going to eat off it before removing the cover. Have a new gasket. Be dilly dern sure you don't drop anything like the old filter, clamp or hose and especially any old gasket material. The SOS is a good transmission, but is like a cat -- finiky about what it eats and grumpy if not clean! You should also put in clean fluid.

Should you decide to change the filter in your S-O-S as it no doubt needs, do not attampt to remove the top cover until you have acquired a proper S-O-S manual and read and understood the procedure.
