1964 International 504

I've got to ask Y'all for some advice and/or opinions. I've searched North Louisiana over lookin' for a Allis Chalmers WD 45...I can find them 400 or more miles away, so far nothin' closer. I've come across a 64...504..Diesel, tractor ain't new, of course (didn't expect it to be) I'm wantin a bigger tractor( than a 240 utility)to bushog, pull a 16 in.3 bottom plow, and 6 or 7 foot disc. This ones $1200.00. Has 3 point hitch. Needs Rear tires. Everything works,Hydraulics okay. Were these good tractors? I've got a Farmall A (44)and a 53Super A to cultivate with, farmin' 5 to 8 acres, I need something to plow deeper and disc better. Thanks in advance.

The 504 was a decent tractor, but it ain't going to handle 3X16s like you are hoping for. It will handle 2x16s very well. If 5 to 8 acres is all you are plowing, I wonder why you think you need a 3 bottom plow. I can plow 6 acres a day with my Super C and 2X12 plow.

I've got a 504 diesel- lots more tractor than a WD 45, and I have found it to be a good, trouble-free tractor. 3 Point has draft control (mine works, anyhow) which would allow use of a 3 point plow. Mine also has torque amplifier (TA), which is a "shift on the go" hi-lo, similar to MF Multi-power, Oliver Hydra-Power and AC Power Director (no neutral in the middle, however). True independent PTO. Should also have power steering. At $1,200, the price is certainly right.

Agreed

The deisel 504 will be twice the tractor a 240 is but it still won't handle a 3-16 plow. However they do have good hydraulics and that engine is very cheap (fuel wise) to run.

don't know about a international 504 but a Farmall 504 sure as he-ll-o pull 3x16' and it will also pull 4x14 semi mounts just fine all day long in 2nd with a littel weight on the nose as a old neighbor and my best man farmed 110 acres with his MIGHTY 504 diesel and a plum slap wore out farmall h for may years and he would come over and barrow my 540 4 x 14 semi mounts with 800 lbs on the nose 450 lbs on the land side and 300 in the farrow he would stroll wright along and not get into the T/A much even on the small hills that we have . He had a set of J D 3x16's in three point and hauled them in second . They are a 45 or better horse tractor and they were made to pull three .

I don't know what kind of loose ground you have in your area, but it will not pull 3 here, I have tried it with a rowcrop and utility. It takes a minimum of 50 HP to even pull 3X14s here. When I talk about plowing, and I have plowed a lot of ground with many different tractors, I am talking about fescue sod or wheat cover crop. That being said, I had a neighbor that pulled 3X14 with his 444 and he plowed about 4 to 5 inches deep. When I plow I run anywhere from 10 to 12 inches. We plowed for years here with a 4440 JD and 4X16 MF plow and it was ALL it would handle. I do know that in different ground A 4440 will pull 6, but not here.

Yep, a nice tractor, but it would probably stay a nice tractor longer if you pulled two bottom plow.

neighbor has a 504 gas and for the money they are damn good tractors and should be able to pull 3 16"

I'm going to tell ya , Central, South, Eastern Ky ground ,is like plowing BLACKTOP!! 101 Ford plows the pans wore through in 5 years kickers (break) cutters every year.Takes horsepower to turn sod 10 inches.Crazy dirt get it worked good if it rains, in one week it's only ROCK hard...Steve

We got it all here from plowen SHALE to yellow caly to gumbow to sand loam and ya can have it all in one field . Yea either need to turn the wick up or tune your tractors better neighbor down the road pulled 5x16 720 spring resets with a 766 at 10 inches for years ya ain't got enough twist the screw Old Ron's 504 diesel had 14.9x38's loaded with a tric. ft. and twisten 2950 RMP sounded like a pizzes off bumbel bee standing 4-5 inches of fire out the stack with a nice trail of black on top of the flame, he also pulled a 10and a half foot # 37 disk . He bought that 504 in the spring of 69 a week after i bought my 450 D .

don't think so. 3x16 is a lot more plow than a 504 can handle. its a light weight tractor with less pulling power than a M. Good tractor just not a puller. Cultivators and pto work not tillage in any big way

Steve that is correct. I use a 666 IH now with a IH 420 3X16 plow and it is all it wants at 10 to 12 inches. I have pulled 4X14s with it in stubble. The 666 is twice the tractor of a 504.

Vet, there was nothing wrong with either tractor, just over loaded. Bring any 504 you like to central KY and you can see for yourself. We too have many types of soil in one field and it is all tough. I seen a guy pulling 5X16s in Nebraska with a 2520 JD. I had one of those and it would barely pull 3X14s here.
