1966 Farmall 656 - Whereabouts

I am trying to locate my grandfather's 1966 Farmall 656. This was the first tractor I was ever allowed to drive by myself and would love to find it again. The serial number is 24295. The tractor is a narrow front with a gas engine. The last known location that I am aware of was when it was sold at auction from my uncle's farm in December 2000 south of Farley, Iowa. The auction advertising bill states the serial number as 242995, but based on the serial number codes for those tractors (TractorData), there are to many digits and I think the extra "9" is the error. I know the odds of finding it are low, but I thought I would try this forum to see if anyone has any advice. I was able to track down a 1948 John Deere A owned by my other grandfather, so I am hopeful.

Thanks,

Doug

You have a pretty good idea as to the serial number which is a tremendous help. Best of luck in your search.

Post a Craigslist Ad and an ad on Facebook in the area of concern to see if any hits.

You should post this on the Red Power forum also. There is a guy there that is looking for a 826, he has people from all over checking serial numbers for him. Shure they would for you also! I have a ‘66 656 I parted out a few years ago, I still have the tag and I will check it.

Thanks for all the information from everyone. I will post on the Red Power forum for sure. I called the
auction company and they only keep records for 7 years and I also spoke to the dealership where the tractor
was first bought, but the dealership changed hands and they do not have those records (to verify serial
number). Really appreciate anyone checking the serial numbers for any suspect 656 they see, particularly in
the eastern Iowa area.

Thanks,

Doug
