1967 JD 4020 correct replacement tachometer

I ordered and received a new replacement tach for my 1967 JD 4020 here at YT, it doesn't fit the cutout on my dash panel...to big by at least an 1/8th inch. I contacted YT and they tell me according to my serial# it is the correct tach, it's not. They tell me to contact JD and get an oem# for my serial#. My question is without direct personal/in person contact with JD how can I track down an oem# for the tach that'll fit my machine? ie: look up the number myself. Thanks for any help with this.

You can check out the JD parts catalogs online at

JD parts catalogs

Model search 4020, there are two parts catalogs split by serial number ranges. Pick your serial number range and you can find the Tach choices with the instruments.

The tach ordered DOES fit, I overlooked the fact that the tach went in from the underside of the dash, not through the cutout. It does have an odd apparatus riveted on the center back of the new tach which I believe is for a light. it made it much harder to reattach the tach drive cable but was doable.

If it has the light part on it that is the wrong tach. Will not matter and will work fine.
