1969 IH 656 Hydro a Crazy problem

I have a 1969 IH 656 Hydro, I recently put a loader on it that came off of an IH674. It took some fab work but its on. However, I have an issue now with the hydraulics for the 3pt arms.

We Teed off the supply line to the rear of the tractor just below the clutch to run the supply hose to the loader controls. But now, for some reason, I can't use the lever to lift my 3pt arms like I use to. What I have to do is set the lever to what position I want, then I pull the loader up/down handle and it will lift the 3pt arms. Once the 3pt arms are at their destination, then the loader starts to go up.

I have no idea why this is happening? How were the hydraulics run on the 656's with a factory loader? Any help is appreciated and I can get more information/Pics if needed.

I'm guessing you have the return from the loader valve plumbed into the rear end somewhere?
Hydraulic oil will follow the path of least resistance, so when you pull the lever for the loader
you're blocking the path to tank and forcing the oil to do work (lift the hitch). I'm guessing that if
you had a heavy load on the hitch the loader would go up before the hitch would lift. To fix your
problem I think you'll need a valve with a 'power beyond' port so that only the return oil from the
loader goes back to tank and the rest can go to the hitch Perhaps someone more familiar with the
tractor will have another suggestion. Good luck. Sam

Yes, The return line is run right into the side of the tank.

You have teed into the hitch supply line as the hitch has it's own separate pump. There are two pumps and the hitch pump mounts piggy back on the main pump. When hitch valve is in neutral, the flow from that pump joins the flow from main pump at the aux valves. You need to use the flow from the aux valves to obtain full flow to the loader and still have independent control for the hitch. I am sure your idea is to not tie up one of the aux valves just for the loader but the only other good way is to install a power beyond end plate and that is difficult to do on that tractor. If you tie into the supply from main pump before aux valves that will work but still won't have full flow from both pumps to loader. Because the main pump supplies power steering first you will only have a max of 9 gal from main pump to loader doing it that way and also will compromise the flow to aux valves. Your choice but I would use one of the aux valves and if you absolutely need one of them for other equipment, I would tie in a electric controlled splitter valve at the aux valve and then you could choose loader or other chore as needed.

So, If I get some hoses made and plug into the rear remotes, I should be able to pull the aux valve lever back and then be able to use the 3pt and the loader.

That should buy me some time until I can get a splitter valve, right?

Yes, you will still be able to use the hitch independent of the loader. If you have two aux valves, the other one will only work when one to loader is in neutral.
