1970 4020D w/o rear diff lock

Good evening everyone! Just wanted to see what you think. I have an opportunity to buy one. Narrow front end w brand new rubber… It’s a bit rough cosmetically (it’s just under $10K) but sound mechanically aside from a continually turning pto shaft ( hoping it might be in linkage but would verify before purchasing). Love to hear some opinions. Thanks!!

15 years ago I would say that they were asking too much. Today given what the asking price tends to be on good 69/70 4020's I would have to ask what's wrong with it?

Those were my thoughts. I figure I’ll need to spend up to $2k getting cosmetics straightened out and I’m a ltl troubled by pto (possible split) but for $9,500 I feel it’s a good investment. I might even have room to switch to a salvage wfe at that price point. Really wish it has rear diff lock though. Thanks!

What is the intended use of the 4020 that lack of a diff lock is an issue?

It would be used all around. No parade queen. Everything from pulling 4 16’s to discing, planting cultivating….subsoiler occasionally. Nothing big….i rotate corn, wheat, bean etc on approx 10-20 acres. I have a ‘68 w rear diff but used a 64 w/o for years. Only stuck it once when I hit a soft spot discing and wasn’t fast enough on the brake in some soft loam. I really was thinking more abt potential resale value re: diff lock. I’m Prbly making too big a deal of it in my mind but was somewhat shocked to find a late model w/o it.
