Broke and replaced the throttle/ foot petal on this 3020. Unhooked the 2 control rods to get more room to work, didn't change anything on the control rods and put them back from where the come. It starts in park, I go to put it in gear and it either tries to lurch or wants to grind. I worked the fel and it works, thinking hydraulic problem. What did I change or do??? took a week to get parts and I do go brain dead, but this got me totally stumped!!! But it don't take much

thanks for any help!!

Bob

I don't know Tim it is very possible. Then I wondered if the bigger of the 2 (looks kinda like a shock or tube) is bad? when in park I got free play on the pins that hook to the shifter and it starts and don't move. Im clueless but really clueless on this.
thanks

"the bigger of the 2 (looks kinda like a shock or tube) is bad"

NOT likely to be your problem, but (FWIW), this is a tube containing a spring that gets compressed if the shift collars are not lined up to permit a shift into park.

If the tractor then rolls a little bit, the compressed spring will complete the shift into park, potentially preventing a "rollaway".

Thanks Bob for the reply. After not much sleeping on it, I think its clutch related as it does all this while clutch is depressed. I find it hard to believe that the clutch went bad just sitting there in the shed but things happen I guess.
thanks

Bob, you are mistaken here. What you describe is th powershift's park spring.

The spring used in Syncro and quad transmissions allows To shift the tractor up the hill while in park

I know I don't explain myself very good sorry, ill try again. With clutch pushed in I can take it out of park but when I try to put in any gear it will either grind or just not go until I shut the tractor off. Have never had any problem with shifting or anything until I removed both shifting linkages (and yes I did move linkages while un pinned but didn't adjust any). If it is stuck between 2 gears will it do this and if so how do I go about getting it unstuck between 2 gears? Local mechanic thinks clutch is frozen and wants to put it in 6th and yank it around some to try and un freeze it. I find it hard to believe it has always worked great up until I unhooked and reattached the linkages. While in park, with linkages hooked up the pins have play. I just don't want to do more damage if it is something simple that im missing. Sorry for the short story.
thanks for any idea

It's your clutch.

Have you removed the inspection cover at the bottom and looked up there (engine "OFF") for moisture and rust?

Also, wouldn't be the first time one of the 3 clutch release bolts has snapped off at a random time, or the lined plate could have cracked or come apart, not to mention numerous things that can go wrong with a clutch without prior notice or warning!

Yes Bob removed inspection plate and no rust or moisture, is small amount of oil. No material came out when I removed the inspection plate. He said pressure plate is working when I operated the clutch. May be time for a split huh?
thanks
Bob
