1972 MF20 - Getting it started - Sitting LONG time

The question, or point really. Is, i have no idea what i am doing. lol

I know what a fuel pump looks like and how to diagnose all the fuel system parts on a car. But everything on this tractor is completely foreign to me. When someone mentions a part name. I have to search the parts manual to see what it looks like.

If you don't know, you don't know. and..... I don't know.
Yea the transfer pump as posted above
Should have some sort of hand primer built into it.
Use it to prime your filters/lines/injection pump
Also there should be probably a black knob on the dash that runs the kill linkage on the injection pump
Make sure its moving the lever on the injection pump

Okay, so two votes (so far) on where/what the primer pump is. To he who "has no idea what he's doing". The primer pump can be tricky. It must be off of the cam lobe or it won't work with the lever. If you feel no resistance when operating the lever you will never move any fuel. Often you will need to bump the engine over a bit to get the lift pump's internal lever in a spot where the outer lever will actually do something. Until you learn the difference in the "feel" of the lever, you can pump forever and get nowhere.

Yes, I neglected to mention that.

Thanks for pointing it out.

So after searching the internet as well as here of course. I ordered the fuel filter and sediment bowl i seen mentioned multiple times.

Fuel Filter: PN 3166
Fuel Filter Bowl: PN 600012 (Fuel Sediment Bowl)

Not sure how they mate up and seal as there is a large gap created by the plastic threaded section that interferes with the fuel filter base.

Came with 3 O-Rings of the same size. Which aren't useful at all here.

-Besides chopping off the threaded section on the sediment bowl and finding a proper O-ring. How have others made this setup work?

According to the parts book which I gave you a link to in post # 12 (along with the bowl number I found), you ordered the wrong bowl. The right bowls are available.

When I try and cross reference the part numbers from the parts book. Nothing comes up. Same for other parts I've tried for this tractor. Obsolete with no replacement part number. Not sure what i'm doing wrong?

Multiple posts mention this bowl and reference the part number when using google. I even used ChatGPT to search the internet to make sure. And I got the same answer....

First question is does the drawing in the parts book look right for the filter on the tractor? There were/are a number of different housing arrangements that use that filter.

1024386M1 plastic bowl appears to be available from Massey Ferguson for about $20.00. When I web search "1024386M1 plastic bowl", I get several aftermarket sources. If you are looking in a cross reference like a filter, I am not surprised it doesn't come up as it is not part of the filter.

Edited to correct spelling

Please explain how you are cross referencing and searching for parts. If you explain your process maybe we can help you get better results.
