1976 John Deere 350C Dozer

Have a 1976 John Deere 350C Dozer that had both final drives rebuilt about 50 hours ago. Right side started wobbling really bad. Track stays on but if you're going straight, every once in awhile, that side will stop turning until something catches and it starts clunking forward again. Included a couple videos. Does this mean something in the final drive has failed or can this be caused by something else? Less than 50 hours for some to wear out seems pretty weird. Thanks.

At the very least the outer bearing on the drive sprocket is gone. If you drive it and a ball gets between the gears, it will be far more to fix it than it is worth. The repair was unsuccessful. with 50 hrs it should be taken back!!!! Jim

I would not say anything has worn out in 50 hours. Your vireo clearly shows something has outright failed. Whether it is due to a bad part or improper set up may be revealed when it is torn down to be rebuilt.

Stop running it and get it fixed. Janicholson is right in saying you are risking a much larger repair bill by driving it. Just curious, did a shop that has experience and the info on setting these up rebuild it? If so, do not post the name, but get back to them on this right away. Or did you just purchase it and the previous owner said it was rebuilt? Or did you rebuild it? If you are planning to fix it yourself, do you have the John Deere technical manual (TM1115) for your 350C?

Stop driving it immediately and take that back to whoever worked on it and get your money back. I have rebuilt them myself and they have been running so long I've had the tracks repinned and bushed.

Thank you for the information. Purchased this dozer a few days ago and have only driven it for transport. The previous owner said he rebuilt it 50 hours ago. Do not have the technical manual. Wanted to confirm this issue could only be the final drive before driving the 300 miles to look at a used one.

Are these interchangeable or is there a left and right side?

Went to the JD website and looked to see if there was a different part number for the left and right housing. Confused; only one part number for my serial number but quantity 1. Typo??? Attached a screenshot.

The housing fits both sides. I have to guess it says 1 as the picture only has one in it. If the drawing had shown the back of the crawler and a housing on both sides, it would have said 2.

Get a manual, you will need it.

So if I buy a complete used final drive it should fit either side? I will buy the manual, thanks.

I have a repair manual for one of those crawlers. Have no use for it and would be glad to see it get to someone who could use it. It is for the loader version but am guessing the engine and drive stuff would be the same as the dozer.
If someone wanted to pay for the mail man to get it there I would send it to them.
PM me if interested.

That is a fine offer, someone with a 350B should jump on it. The 350B was dry steering clutches and the 350C has wet clutches so there are differences in the steering and final drives. He needs the TM1115 technical manual for a 350C due to those differences.

the advise from me is just doing that demo is a bad deal. u have a big expensive problem to fix. the guy should have told you what was done and parts replaced or even showed you receipts. even let the guy know about this frailer, not that it will help as maybe thats why he got rid of it. it appears you just bought it this way the way i am reading this.
