1984 Case 2294

First I know they only made these Case tractors painted white one year, are they rare?

Second I am trying to service out the hydro fluid, yes I am the same person that was asking questions on the 970, but here is my question, is regular 303 hydro fluid good enough for a power shift tranny. If it is not what, lets say at napa, should a person get. I dont want to spend the extra money to get Hy-trans so what works just as well?

How many gallons of hydro fluid do I need, and how many drain plugs on this unit? I almost missed the fifth one on the 970, but thanks to you guys I found it.

Anyway Thanks

If you want your powershift to last go to case and get hytran. There is no other oil "good enough" for powershift as far as I'm concerned. Other oils will work in non-powershift transmissions, but your asking for trouble if you use it in a powershift.

Put hytran in , for it is designed for the clutches and orings. Oils have different additives in them. It would be like going to a store and buying ATF for your car or truck transmission, car makers change things and change oil to match, or should I say up grade. I change hytran every two years and filters every year. Jerry from Ohio

Before you use any other oil besides Hy Tran you should talk to a frequent visitor here on forum name Brokengun, He used an off brand oil in his tractor and EVERY power shift lined plate came unglued and required a complete transmission / power shift rebuild to replace all the plates. I have retired after 52 years at a Case dealer in service and can vouch for the results of bad oils. A word to the wise is sufficient.

303 is NOT suitable in any way shape or form for a Case Powershift. I understand not wanting to spend the money for HyTran but there really is no substitute. We run 7 Case powershifts from the 90-94 series here on a daily basis and when the first ones came here we used cheaper oils and we rebuilt a few powershifts because of it, Since switching to Hytran I have not rebuilt a powershift. I guess the choice is ultimately yours but a little extra up front to buy Hytran vs 6000+ to have someone split a tractor and rebuild a powershift later on plus the down time that goes with it seems like a no brainer to me.

I think they answered your oil question,to quote a feed dealer(only the rich can afford a cheap feed)I think that applies to oil,as to the white being rare probably not they built some of the 96 series in white also.

The white paint started after Case bought David Brown of england in about 1974, and continued until CASEih in about 1985 or so. So about 10 years. But the facts can be looked up somewhere.
