1984 intl 1700 ignition problem

Are you refering to the coil being the ignitor?
Which engine do you have---345---392? Do you have
points & condenser or has it been changed to electronic
ignition?

Maybe like this? See link.
Edit to add, if you web search the IH part number they give I found other option as low as $30. How good is the $30 one iDK, how much markup is on the one in the link? IDK that either.

I thought maybe this guy was in the middle of harvest and his truck laid down on him. Have not heard a peep if that is what he was looking for. I suppose if he is in harvest he might not even have time to reply. By the way Jim, he said 1984, I believe almost all gasoline engines in road vehicles swapped to factory electronic ignition in 1976.

The following is the Vin from the Door Data Plate. 1HTLBEGP2EHA39405,
The Date of MFG. 2-27-84-1
Model 1724

Thnk you for the reply and info. If anyone has the original IH part number or numbers we would be greatful. Any ideas are also appreciated as to where to get parts, new or used? Also would this part be only used in IH or could it be listed by another MFG by another number.

You are right, Red. I mis-read the date as
1974 instead of '84.
That gold box was used on AMC vehicles of
that vintage, so search there also.

Our '75 500 truck had a couple of those gold
boxes go out, & I got 2 or 3 from the parts
yard.

Took a look in Rock Auto & they list a Standard
Motor products LX405 for $40 plus shipping. This
unit has a 5 year/ 50,000 mile warranty.
The Delco is $138.
